New director
The board of the Norwegian Glacier Museum has appointed Anne Mundal Skjelten as the new director of the museum.
The Norwegian Glacier Museum is a private foundation established by the Norwegian Polar Institute, NVE, UiO, UiB, Western Norway University of Technology, DNT and the International Glaciological Society. In the 28 years since the museum opened, the center can be said to be one of Norway's greatest museum successes, with an annual average of nearly 65,000 visitors and a continuously good economy. In recent years, the museum has had about 80,000 visitors, and since its opening in 1991, almost 2 million people have visited the museum.
Anne Mundal Skjelten has previously worked as a regional secretary at the insurance company Vital, and as managing director at Sigurd Ziem in Bergen. In 2011, she and her family moved back home to Fjærland and in recent years she has worked both as an advisor in the financial services and as deputy head of the accounting section at NAV in Leikanger.
Anne is 43 years old and grew up in Fjærland with glaciers and tourism as a natural part of life. She started her first summer job at Hotel Mundal at the age of 16, and from 1993 she had summer jobs for seven consecutive years at the Norwegian Glacier Museum and at the tourist information office in Fjærland. She therefore knows both the museum and the village very well.
Anne will take up her new position on March 15, 2020 and will be the 4th director since the museum opened its doors in 1991.
