Welcome to Utladalen National Park Center

Utladalen Naturhus is authorized as a visitor center for Jotunheimen national park and Utladalen landscape conservation area.

Utladalen National Park Center

Utladalen National Park Center serves as the National Park visitor Center for Jotunheimen National park and the Utladalen landscape Conservation area. In addition, the center, through the Stiftinga Utladalen Naturhus , responsible for all management work in Utladalen on behalf of the Norwegian Nature Conservation Agency. The National Park Center is open every day from May to the end of October each year, and also during school holidays and in connection with events. We open our doors to school classes/groups all year round.

Traffic in the protected area

The goal of establishing protected areas is to preserve or enhance natural values for the future. Therefore, the nature in these areas is protected from damage and disturbance.

There can be major interventions such as building cabins and planting new trees, but even the small things we do, such as breaking branches, taking photos with wild reindeer or picking rocks inside the national park, can be against the rules.

Here you will find information about what applies where you are traveling.

Care of the cultural landscape in Utladalen

Utladalen National Park Center carries out management and facilitation measures in the Utladalen landscape conservation area through the Foundation called Stiftinga Utladalen Naturhus. Mowing, supervising grazing animals, trimming trees and maintaining trails are some of the tasks we perform on behalf of the Norwegian Nature Conservation Agency.

Education

Utladalen National Park Center offers various educational programs related to the natural and cultural history of Utladalen and Jotunheimen national park. We also arrange summer schools for children, various courses and host various events both alone and in collaboration with others.

The exhibition

In June 2025, a new exhibition about the Utladalen landscape conservation area and Jotunheimen National Parkwill open. Our own educational programs have been developed, and we welcome groups for both courses, storytelling, catering and other types of events.

Skåri

The Skår farm was not operated until the 1970s. The cultural landscape here shows traces of what we call subsistence farming. The Utladalen National Park Center is housed in the old farm buildings, and the center's buildings consist of the stove house and barn on the farm.

Vormeli

Vormeli , or “ Utladalsholet ", belongs to Luster municipality. Vormeli was probably the most remote farm in the country at the time. Today it is the Stiftinga Utladalen Naturhus who manages the maintenance of buildings, arrangements for accommodation and care of the cultural landscape around the farm.

You can find your dream job in Utladalen

Every year, Utladalen National Park Center welcomes seasonal workers who contribute to the daily operations during the summer season. The positions have been given the title of maintenance mediators, because the work we do with the cultural landscape outdoors is an important part of our communication work. As a seasonal employee with us, you will work with maintenance in the form of mowing, forest clearing, weeding, mapping biodiversity, pruning elm trees, weeding hiking trails, supervising grazing animals (horses and sheep) and providing information to tourists.
